A viral compatibility test: look up the moon phase on each person’s birth date, then place the two moons side by side. If their lit halves face opposite directions and their illumination adds up to about 100%, the two moons visually combine into one full moon — the test calls that pairing "moon soulmates." It began on TikTok and spread as a fun, reflective way to look at a relationship.
We count the days between your birth date and a reference new moon (January 6, 2000), divide by the average lunar cycle of 29.53 days, and read the remainder as the moon’s age — which maps to one of the eight phases and an illumination percentage. Everything is computed in your browser.
Pairs whose light completes the circle: New Moon with Full Moon, a Waxing Crescent with a Waning Gibbous, a First Quarter with a Last Quarter, a Waxing Gibbous with a Waning Crescent. The rule of thumb is opposite sides lit, illumination summing to about 100%.
The test calls that a twin-moon pairing: same light, same instincts. It reads as instant recognition and shared defaults — with the caveat that both partners also share the same blind spots, so the phase’s weaknesses go uncovered unless you name them.
It is a reflective tradition, not science — no study links birth moon phases to relationship outcomes. Astronomically, our calculation uses the mean lunar cycle, which can be off by several hours near a phase boundary; birthdays that fall right on a boundary may read as the neighbouring phase. Treat the result as a conversation starter, not a verdict.
