The moon phase soulmate test is a viral compatibility game. You find the moon phase on each person’s birth date, then set the two moons side by side. If opposite halves are lit and the two together make one full moon, the test calls you "moon soulmates." It started on TikTok and spread as a fun, reflective way to look at a relationship.
We count the days from a known new moon — 6 January 2000 — to your birth date. The moon repeats its whole cycle every 29.53 days, so whatever is left over tells us how far into the cycle the moon had travelled the day you were born. That tells us your phase and how much of the moon was lit. It all happens on your device.
The soulmate pairs are the ones whose light completes the circle: New Moon with Full Moon, Waxing Crescent with Waning Gibbous, First Quarter with Last Quarter, Waxing Gibbous with Waning Crescent. The rule of thumb — opposite sides lit, and the two lit parts adding up to roughly a whole moon.
Sharing a moon phase makes you a twin-moon pairing: same light, same instincts. It reads as instant recognition — you two meet the world the same way. The catch is that you share the same blind spots as well, so nobody is covering them unless you name them out loud.
It is a reflective tradition, not science — no study links birth moon phases to relationship outcomes. There is a small astronomical caveat too. We work from the moon’s average cycle length, which can run a few hours out, so a birthday falling right where one phase turns into the next may show the neighbouring phase instead. Treat the result as a conversation starter, not a verdict.
